No one can advance economically without an education. Nowhere is that more true than in Uganda. For just $30 a month you can make the difference in a child’s life today. All of the money will go directly to your child. Your pledge will cover all of your child’s basic needs, which includes: tuition, food, uniforms, books and supplies. You will also have the opportunity to form a relationship with your child. Many sponsors write letters to their children and some have even had the opportunity to go and visit their sponsored children.

There are many children at God Cares School who are orphaned or do not live close enough to allow them to attend the school. Pastor Dongo and his wife, Florence, have made it possible for some of the children to actually live at the school in dormitory rooms. These children spend much of their school year at God Cares School and are well fed and taken care of. There are special adult caregivers who are given charge over them after school hours, and the children are loved and taught to live their lives in a way that is pleasing to the Lord. Despite their difficult circumstances, these children are very happy and are at the heartbeat of God Cares School. Obviously, it requires more money to support these children, for their school and daily life needs.
The teachers at God Cares School are very dedicated to their profession, and they love the children. Although school books and texts are hard to find for all of the students, they do an amazing job educating these children. A tremendous amount of time and energy goes into creating a curriculum that will meet the Ugandan standards and prepare the students for their grade level tests. But, these teachers are also living in a poverty stricken area with their own families where food and basic needs are expensive. You can help them by sponsoring a teacher each month. This will help cover their salary and increase the finances of the school to cover the expenses needed to keep quality teachers on board who are committed to the children and who love the Lord.

Guidelines in Sending Gifts
We would suggest small things that would fit in a padded envelope. Some ideas might include: soft covered books, crayons, colored pencils, pens, pencils, coloring books, small toys, costume jewelry, warm weather clothing, such as a T-shirt or light weight shorts or dress. No sweets, please. Money and electronic devices should never be sent through the mail, nor should any mail or packages be sent to the PO Box in California. Please make sure you note your child’s full name on the package when you send it to God Cares School. Please don’t contact Buyamba Inc or Uganda about your child’s shirt or shoe size. We do not have enough man power to keep track of the kids’ clothes sizes but a larger guessed size is better. Keep in mind, the most cherished gift that the children love to share are your photos!!!!
2. Will I get information on my child?
Pastor Dongo loves when sponsors communicate with their children and we are working on increasing our ability to get out letters and report cards to our sponsors. We are currently documenting biographies and new pictures of our sponsored children which we hope to have out in the beginning of next year. The children cherish your letters and pictures. Thank you for praying and supporting them.
3. Why doesn’t my sponsored child have a birth date listed?
Birthdays, in Uganda, are not celebrated. Unlike children in the United States, if you were to ask a child in Uganda when their birthday occurs, they might not even know! This poses a problem for us in the United States when we are trying to keep track of our record keeping, but it is not such a big deal in Africa. When a child is orphaned, or moves around form one care taker to another, this background and birth date information may become even fuzzier. I often get asked by sponsors what they should get for their child’s birthday. Many sponsors also worry that they are “late” in sending their child a present or card for their birthday. There is no need to worry about this at all. There is no expectation on the part of your child to receive a birthday present in the mail. BUT, they do love to receive your gifts any time, so go ahead and send one if you would like J
4. Can I sponsor an older child that needs help?
Recently, we have been blessed to be offering sponsorship to some older children. These are kids struggling in the surrounding areas of God Cares. They are children who may not have had the money to go to school continuously in their childhood, but they are hoping to go to a trade or technical school to make a life for themselves. These sponsorships will go for $50 a month to cover the cost of these trade schools. Please email julie@ugandabuyamba.com for details.
