God Cares High School: 2021 Dormitory Status
Update: July 2021
Well, since many have asked, here is an update...We were able to complete our second floor of the girls' dorm, in which we can now house well over 200 girls when they come back to school. The boys' dorms are close behind, but we are currently at a standstill due to funding. Our focus has been on our students' and their families' immediate needs, not our building campaign. We have also kept our contractual commitments to all our staff as far as their salaries during this challenging time. This has provided such an encouragement to those who depend on the community of Buyamba. It has also kept the quality staff secured in their jobs.
We know God has led us to keep these priorities in order and have been blessed in this effort through you all, our ministry partners. But there have been some donors who still have the dorms in their hearts and have been giving faithfully, and we wanted to let you know where we are in this process. We have used the funds and have seen the boys' foundational floor coming together, as well as the beginning of the first floor. The foundation and first floor are always the most complicated part because it includes clearing the land and constructing the whole foundation and the electrical and plumbing basis that will serve the rest of the 5-story building. Join us as we pray that God provides the walls and roof to finish this ground floor effort so we can provide a student home for 100 high school boys when they return to school. Meanwhile, we are constructing the security wall around the complex (like we did around the girls' dorm) while we wait on the Lord for the rest of the provision. |
Update: May 2021

We are SO THANKFUL! The Girls' Dormitory has two full levels completed, and the girls are in "paradise". That's what they call their new dorms because of how nice they are. We are now laying the foundation and working on the first level of the Boys' Dormitory. All of this has been made possible because of YOUR SUPPORT. Together, we are making room for future generations.

Update: February 2020
|
It's happening! School started, and the doors are open wide to more than 100 girls to settle into their new dormitory! There was a lot of excitement as the girls brought their bags from home to make their boarding stay comfortable at God Cares High School!
Please enjoy a personal message of thanks from our Project Manager, Peter Byakika. As usual, in Buyamba building processes, the second floor will be under construction during the day when the girls are in classes, making room for the next 100 girls who will take residence when the work is finished. |
Thanks to all who have given towards this project!!! God has multiplied your efforts, and here are the results! In addition, the kitchen building that has been used since the beginning as a temporary dorm is now freed up to exist as a real kitchen. Anyone that has visited God Cares High School knows how big this is for the temporary kitchen was housed in a makeshift shack that did the job, but this building will be a game-changer for the kitchen staff.

Update: October 2019
|
The dorms should be ready for 100 girls to move in February when the new school year begins.
Worship reported, “We are doing the finishing work on windows, painting, and providing water and electricity throughout.” The completion of this first floor will get many girls in, but we have many more behind them, with a school population of 900, most of whom, board at the school. Each floor will house the same amount of students, and we will forge ahead until we have 5 levels done. Then, we will turn around and start the boys’ dorms down the hill. God is good, and He will provide! We have seen Him do it repeatedly with this faithful Buyamba family! |
Update: May 2019
The pictures below are brand new, and they reveal the nearly completed first floor of the Girls' dormitory. Notice the attention to detail, how the walls flare out and are nicely rounded. The design also includes a courtyard right in the middle of the building where students can study, do laundry, and hang out. The dorms will be more than a place for the students to sleep, they will be a place for students to call home.
The first floor will hold 100 girls, and it should be ready for them to move in within the next few months. This alone will alleviate the cramped quarters of the kitchen and the lower section of the assembly hall.

Thanks to your prayers and financial support we have raised $250,000!
This has given us two foundations and the first floor of the girls' dorm. Our next phase will be to construct the second floor of the girls' dorm, and the projected cost is $100,000. We are grateful for you and the sacrifices you have made, and continue to make, to forge forward to see this building completed. Please continue to pray as we enter this next phase.

Update: December 2018
The student dorm building project broke ground in Uganda this December! The first steps will be to lay the foundation for both dorms, then build the first floor of the girls' dorm so girls can immediately be moved in. Check out some pictures below and a video update from Project Manager Peter Byakika.

At God Cares High School, almost all of the students live at school for it is over an hour away from God Cares Primary School, where most of the students come from. There is no way to go back and forth each day to school (like many who had walked to school or took the bus when they lived near the primary school from the surrounding slums or villages). Since we are looking at a high school population this year that has reached 800, there is an immediate need for dormitories.
Currently, the GCHS kitchen building has been transformed into a huge girls' dorm with three-story high bunk beds filling the space. Now, the completed Bethuel Assembly Hall's bottom floor also houses the senior girls (where the future teacher's quarters will be.) The high school boys are nestled on the fifth floor the the five-story high school building. This dorm project must begin now at God Cares High School. |
|
These various living spaces have been temporary solutions. The time for temporary fixes is over as the government continues to ask that the students be housed outside of the classrooms, as required by law. We have had favor with the authorities, but the time of us "moving forward in this process" has ended, and we must build the dormitories now.
Although building the dorms is another huge building project to undertake, we have learned that one person can make a difference, a focused group of people can make an impact, and all of us together can change a nation. So, if the next step for us is to build the dormitories, then we will be about our Father's business together...one brick at a time. Please pray for wisdom and financial support for our students' dormitories. |
