Overcoming Rising Costs ... Together
We are so thankful for each one of our Buyamba Partners. Throughout the years, it has been our privilege to come to our Buyamba supporters and speak transparently regarding the challenges in our Buyamba program on either side of the globe. We believe that is what partnership is about, and we don’t take our relationships for granted. We wanted to inform you of our current financial challenges in Uganda, such as the rising food and fuel costs. Uganda has been faced with heavy inflation rates (like much of the world). The annual inflation rate in Uganda accelerated for the sixth straight month to 7.9% in July of 2022, from 6.8% in the previous month. It was the highest reading since December of 2015.

According to national statistics, the increase in food alone in Uganda is 14.9%, but this increase is even more significant at the school level. This reality has had an impact on our program at God Cares School. Forexample, one bag of posho (like oatmeal) used as a staple food each day previously cost 1,800 shillings per kilo; posho now costs 3,500 shillings for the same amount. The same increase is happening with most foods we use daily, such as beans, tomatoes, soybeans, and even cassava, not to mention the cost of meat or fish. We feed many people every day, and our budget has been challenged. We are blessed to provide meals for 1,800 students plus the staff and teachers two or three times a day at God Cares Nursery & Primary School, and God Cares High School (where all students board at the school). To give you a conservative glimpse of how many meals are served, we have approximately 1,800 students consuming about 3,870 meals daily! That is amazing!

To overcome rising food costs, both Buyamba U.S. and Uganda offices together have devised a strategic plan, and we need your help. You’re invited to join us in prayer, first and foremost, for all good things are birthed in prayer.

Intentionally buy food in bulk (see video below) - straight from the farmers. This strategy starts with our Buyamba farm and extends to other neighboring farmers at harvest times. Raise the tuition this upcoming year for the 30% of student families who pay for their child to attend God Cares Schools. |
U.S. Team
Invite Buyamba sponsors to give an additional $5 more per sponsorship. (See below) Relaunch the Buyamba Food Outreach by establishing Food Partners who will support this ongoing effort to meet the differences in costs, specifically feeding students at God Cares Schools, whether through a one time gift or monthly pledge of any amount. |
