Jerry Lehman 1936 - 2018
Jerry Lehman
It is with heavy hearts that we share news of the passing of a great man and founder of Buyamba USA, Jerry Lehman, who went to be with the Lord early this morning in his hometown, Kingston, New York. Jerry was 82 years old and is survived by his wife Pat Lehman and family.

Jerry and Pat established Buyamba in 2002 in Kingston, New York, after Jerry had met and befriended Pastor Bethuel and Florence Dongo and their family while he served as a missionary in Uganda from 1984-1987. Jerry was passionate about helping the Dongo family reach out to those children in Uganda who were orphaned and fatherless. He opened the non-profit called Buyamba Orphan Outreach when he returned to the United States and began the process of finding a sponsor for each of the children that the Dongo family had brought under their care. Pastor Dongo considered Jerry and Pat his spiritual parents.
His life was that of following the Lord all of his days, and with that, Jerry impacted many. He carried Buyamba Orphan Outreach for five years and then joined hands with the new Buyamba non-profit that was born in California in 2007, as he and his wife Pat retired. Jerry’s vision for calling people in the United States to help those across the sea, continues today. We will miss him dearly, and extend our love and prayers to his wife, Pat.
Florence Dongo upon reflection said it best …..
The Hero, the great man has fallen! Yes, he has fought a good fight, he has kept the faith. Jerry Lehman will receive the crown of Victory on that day! - Florence Dongo

Riches and honor are with Him, enduring riches and righteousness." Proverbs 8:18
Jerry possessed and possesses enduring riches and righteousness. Even now he might be casting his crown at King Jesus' feet.

Brother Jerry's bold faith and his selfless actions on behalf of the least of these will not be forgotten. I am greatly saddened by his passing, but I rejoice in imagining him now reunited with his dear friends in the presence of God.

The Lord shined His light and goodness upon Jerry and his wife, Pat, and they were faithful to support Pastor Dongo and Florence. What a beautiful testimony of King Jesus in their lives, and their faithfulness to the ministry of Buyamba. Every part of the Body of Christ is important. We thank God for Jerry. Wonder what he and Pastor Dongo are doing now?--Celebrating in King Jesus! Hallelujah! Amen.

Our love, prayers and blessing to Pat and their loved ones. May God bring comfort , strength and a peace that transcends all understanding through the perfect love of our Lord Jesus. God's tender and kind blessings rest upon you all. Amen.

Hubby’s (Steve Plog) best friend of nearly (not quite but close) 40 years died this past week. At hubby’s service in Kingston last year, I held Jerry’s hand and he just cried saying over and over...”I lost my best friend...Steve was my best friend”. RIP Brother Jerry and somewhere out there, I know you 2 have gotten into mischief all ready! Jerry spoke many fluent languages (several African dialects).

He tried very hard to help me speak/learn Spanish. Finally told me “...don’t try to even speak it... it’s coming out French Portuguese and no one will ever get it...”. Loved talking with him about Africa!!

Our son, Steve, (deceased in 2017) was a best friend to Jerry. The two of them often went to the more dangerous neighborhoods of Kingston witnessing for Christ. The word was out on the streets, "Don 't bother Jerry and Steve, they are the good guys."

Jerry was a tremendous man of faith whom I was privileged to have known. I am very grateful for the times we had together. His faith was a great example and inspiration to me.
